Going to a nutritionist! Need Help!

Hello everyone, as you can tell from the title i'm going to see a nutritionist. It's not my choice believe me, its my mums. I'm 15 and I've been vegan for almost 3 months now and have followed the hclf vegan lifestyle I'm going to be writing down what I eat for a week on my vegan lifestyle so the nutritionist person can see it and was seeing, as there's a lot of people on this discussion, if anybody knew any foods that I could get so I can prove to the nutritionist/dietitian  that I'm getting enough nutrients for my "growing body"? not that I haven't done my research in this lifestyle, I just thought it would help if I talked to people who had been doing it longer and were more experienced :)

Would really appreciate the help guys! Thank you!

  • Make sure to use chronometer and track your foods. If you journal what you are eating then you can turn the appointment around and show them you are taking charge of your diet and ask for plant based solutions for example. It will give you time to look at what foods you might be missing and adjust.

Also research nutritionists in your area who have experience with vegan diets/ education in that area. If they haven't exlpored veganism or plant based in their industry funded education they will likely be less knowledgable than you about your health while eating as you do.

  • Deva Megavitamin is a great supplement to add to your routine, if your nutritionist is worried that you are missing vitamins/minerals.

However, it is likely your nutritionist is not going to support a Raw Till 4 diet.  It's quite variable from the food pyramid and other nutritional knowledge that is out there.  However, if you can tally up what you are consuming and prove to her you are receiving enough calories and protein, she likely will be ok with the vegan and low fat elements of your diet.

  • Sadly, I have nothing positive to say about nutritionists hahahahaha, I went to one during my recovery from an eating disorder and she made be belive I could only eat 4 portions of fruit a day or I'd get fat (which is a twisted thing to say to someone who is recovering from anorexia, but nevermind, she was an idiot). I was already vegan at that time, and she tried to make me go back to eating meat too ¬¬' Really, it was awful. But that's just my experience, maybe you are lucky enough to have a GOOD nutritionist for a change!!

Another option would be talking to your mom and see if she would be ok with you tracking your intake on a website (like Cronometer) so she could make sure you're getting enough nutrients (just don't obsess over calories, please!!) or getting your blood tested periodically like Elise Welker says...
Personally, I hate blood tests but it's an option!! hahahaha

    • Great idea - using the Cronometer to prove to her parent that she is hitting enough calories and valuable nutritional elements.

  • The biggest thing is to make sure you are eating enough, loads of calories!  Plenty of water, sunshine/vitamin D and sleep!  My daughter is going to be 14 in a couple months and she's growing great!  She eats cooked vegan, mainly lunch and tons of organic bananas and we just got lots of mangos, she eats canned peaches, too, because we live in the colder northern-ish regions.  She is starting to eat more spinach, but it's easier since she does a banana smoothie and it's warmer, everyone feels like eating salads.  So don't forget your greens - mega good nutrients there whether you juice, smoothie or eat huge salads!

Hope this helps and that your parents will see the benefits and even start eating better with you!

  • I don't have any advice....But i am totally in the same boat! I am 16 and my dad is constantly having me get my blood tested. It is always fine, but he is convinced that i will keel over and die from lack of nutrients. Our parents need some VEGucation! lol
